Featured Artist – OC & Verde

Since breaking through in 2016 on Hot Since 82’s label Knee Deep In Sound with their Essential New Tune and Beatport Number 1 ‘Maasai’, OC & Verde have already stacked up releases on Truesoul, Octopus, Glasgow Underground, Yoshitoshi, Suara and Bedrock whilst gaining heavyweight support from the likes of Adam Beyer, Solomun, Joesph Capriati, Maya Jane Coles, Sasha, John Digweed, Tale Of Us and Maceo Plex. This consistency has not gone unnoticed with Pete Tong of The Essential Selection on BBC immediately naming OC & Verde as his “Ones to Watch” in 2017 and subsequently inviting the duo into the BBC Radio 1 Studios to be interviewed live on air as part of his ‘Final Credits’ feature alongside them delivering a 40 minute showcase for the Radio 1 ‘Tag Team Mix’.

OC & Verde ’s presence on Radio 1 has continued to resonate across the station with Danny Howard awarding them his ‘Friday Fire’ accolade for their remix of Eli & Fur’s ‘Around You’ which has since gone Top 10 on Beatport Techno and lead to the guys being hailed as Pete Tong’s “New Names” for 2018.

Here at Technoscene, we featured four of our favorite OC & Verde productions including if you scroll down past this text their recent two-tracker ‘Korowai’ on Matador’s RUKUS, which kinda reminded us of Stephan Bodzin. Congratulations to the guys for their success so far, they even managed to secure a slot at Forms in Fabric in London recently.

Some info on the duo from Rukus: Along the way they’ve ticked off some of the career-making achievements artists dream of, including Radio 1’s Essential New Tune, Friday Fire, and being tagged as the Ones To Watch by Pete Tong. Composing powerful tracks that are celebrated internationally by fans and peers alike, these prolific producers add yet another outstanding release to an already brimming back catalog.

‘Korowai’ packs a punch from the very first hit with a tight 808 kick and a rolling 16th bass line. Daring, dreamy melody and fearless rhythm build to a sonic crescendo, commanding the ear and the dance floor. The atmosphere shifts subtly in ‘Panther’ to a more somber and poignant affair. Whispered chants of quiet anguish offset a harshly dissonant arp. Rippling synths break high tension and a solid, resolute bass answers ecstatic cries of rapture.

This EP is much like the duo themselves – accomplished and exhilarating, definitive in direction and majestic in originality.
