10 Questions 2 – Andres Campo – Technoscene Interview

01. Hey Andres, welcome to Techno Scene! Can you tell us more about your music history? Maybe something many people don’t know about you.

Hello all! It’s a long story, I start to listen to disco vinyl at home with my mum on an old turntable. Honestly, I started so young, at 16 I was a resident in some clubs in my hometown in Huesca, so all my childhood has been surrounded by electronic music.

02. How did you get into the scene and what are your first memories of music?

Listening to pirate FM radio, cassettes from my brother and hanging out with some friends that were DJs.

03. Where do you see the techno scene in 10 years? And how do you see yourself in 10 years within the scene?

Me in 10 years: I hope, doing the same with the same passion. The scene: I don’t know, social media has had a great impact, now a lot of it seems to be about marketing. I’m wary of that, I hope the scene keeps the real values.

04. Where do you most enjoying playing, crowded festival venues or more intimate clubs?

Intimate clubs always. Festivals are great, the views are awesome, but I flourish in small clubs with good sound systems doing marathon sets.

05. You recently played All Night Long at Florida 135 to celebrate your birthday there as a resident – what a special show that must’ve been! How does your relationship with the club make you feel, and what’s your favourite thing about your residency?

Being a resident in a club like Florida 135 is something special, I feel like a raver inside those walls. I also have a great relationship with all my mates there, and I actively collaborate in all the processes. The All Night Long night was an idea from Joaquin, my boss,, I was nervous when he proposed a night with only me (Florida has a capacity for 4k people) because normally we have big names and heavy headliners, but he was right, and finally it was a big party, full of people and a surprise for me. Playing an all night long set there brings me back to my beginnings as a resident club DJ.

06. Tell us the proudest moment in your career to date?

Dancing with my mum at Florida 135, she came as a surprise and I started the All Night Long set with ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen.

07. What music/genres do you listen to when you’re at home?

Chill, ambient, electronic, soft music generally.

08. You’ve recently dropped some great releases – a remix of Dense & Pika’s ‘Delta System’ on Kneaded Pains and a return to Odd Recordings with your ‘Forget’ EP. How did the remix for D&P come about?

They asked me to do a remix, and obviously, I said yes. For me, D&P are one of my favourite producers, they have their own signature sound and heavy quality. Also, they are really nice guys. At the beginning I was afraid, I think I put too much pressure on myself, I made like four versions, but finally, we found the right one. Thanks, guys!

09. Can you tell us a bit of the studio process you used for the track ‘Forget’ on Odd? What was easy/what was tough to perfect?

It was really easy, I take a vocal from Jim Morrison used a long time ago by Gecko and then I go hard with a heavy drum line and a long break, all the intensity is in the vocal. Ramiro is a big friend of mine, I sent it to him with, ‘Check this bro, I went hard in the studio, maybe you like the results’, and he was super into releasing an EP on his label.

10. Do you have any do’s or don’ts regarding tips for upcoming talents?

Don’t do don’ts! This is a long run, take it easy, things come with work, respect and patience.

Finally, can you tell us more about your plans for the coming summer? Where can we catch you playing?

This summer I will be playing some of the biggest festivals here in Spain: A Summer Story, Weekend Beach, Off Sonar with Paradise etc. I’m also really focusing on my label EI8HT with Dan. And I’m looking forward to my dates in Ibiza with Resistance, Pyramid and my friends of Elrow. Thanks a lot!
